SUMMARY:The 4th Witch
DESCRIPTION:The 4th Witch is a fantastic new tale\, inspired by elements of Shakespeare’s Macbeth\, in which a girl escapes war and seeks protection from three witches. They agree to take her on as an apprentice with only one condition: she must never use her powers for revenge. Consumed by grief and rage\, the girl comes to realize that it was Macbeth who killed her parents. Now she must choose between reconciliation or vengeance. \nTold through inventive practical effects executed in plain sight\, the troupe brilliantly employs shadow puppetry\, live music and actors in silhouette\, to create an entire new world in The 4th Witch. Manual Cinema has built a devoted fanbase in Boston over the course of their thrilling past productions at ArtsEmerson including Ada/Ava and Frankenstein. Do not miss their triumphant return this fall!

SUMMARY:Music America
DESCRIPTION:Music runs through the veins of America. Since the nation’s inception two and a half centuries ago\, music has informed our national identity\, interpreted it\, and inspired it. Whether sacred or secular\, urban or rural\, folk or pop\, classical or experimental\, it all adds up to the soundtrack of our American story. \nMUSIC AMERICA tells the complex story of American music through instruments\, hand-written lyrics\, books\, photographs\, costumes\, and other objects from major artists across genres and generations. Featuring more than 100 legendary artifacts from artists ranging from Public Enemy to Elvis Presley\, the exhibit showcases stage outfits worn by Aerosmith’s Joe Perry\, Boston’s Tom Scholz\, and Elvis\, Chuck D’s handwritten “Fight the Power” lyrics\, and items from Bo Diddley\, Ella Fitzgerald\, Kurt Cobain\, Michael Jackson\, Bruce Springsteen and more. \nThis exhibit is curated by and presented in partnership with the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music. \nThe Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music preserves the legacy of Bruce Springsteen and celebrates the history of American music and its diversity of artists and genres. Our mission is two-fold. The Springsteen Archives serves as the official repository for materials related to Springsteen and the E Street Band\, including photographs\, historic memorabilia\, oral histories\, and more. The Center for American Music explores American music more broadly. We accomplish this by producing exhibitions\, concerts\, and educational programming that explores and honors the cultural impact of American music past\, present\, and future. SUMMARY:Innovation Trail — Special Event Marking the Telephone's 150th Birthday
DESCRIPTION:Mr. Watson\, come here! Learn about one of Boston’s most world-changing inventions and see a museum that’s not regularly open to the public. \nAhoy-hoy\, lovers of nerdy history! \nOn this special late afternoon tour\, we’ll get you inside a museum that isn’t ordinarily open to the public: Verizon’s museum of the telephone\, which contains an incredible collection of early telephone equipment\, as well as a recreation of Alexander Graham Bell’s lab that was overseen by his assistant\, Thomas Watson. \nThen\, we’ll walk together and discuss several other key spots related to telephone history — including the place where the first public demonstration happened\, in May 1876. We’ll wrap up with an (optional) drink at a Beacon Hill bar where AGB relaxed after a long day’s inventing. \nWhen you join us for this special tour\, you can purchase a Benefactor Ticket that includes a limited edition embroidered Innovation Trail hat. (See event website for photo.) \nWe start very close to the Bowdoin and Government Center T stops\, and end very close to there\, near the State House. SUMMARY:Nrityamala - A Bharatanatyam Dance Performance
DESCRIPTION:“I am dedicated to nurturing dancers of all ages and guiding them in discovering the richness of their cultural heritage through this timeless art form.” – Neha Kumar \nNeha Kumar is a Bharatanatyam dancer and the artistic director of Nritya Dance Academy in Westborough\, Massachusetts. With over 25 years of experience in this classical art form\, she has performed on stages across the United States and in India. Beyond the stage\, Neha has used Bharatanatyam as a medium for impact—supporting meaningful causes and raising funds for underprivileged children in both the U.S. and in India. \nBharatanatyam is an Indian Classical Dance form that originated in the temples of South India over 2000 years ago involving intense foot movements in rhythmic patterns in combination with facial expressions to depict stories of Hindu mythology. Bharatanatyam is performed to Carnatic (South Indian classical) music\, where the ragam defines the melodic structure and mood of the song\, and talam provides the rhythmic framework. \nThis event is open to the public. Tickets are required and can be purchased online\, through the Modern Theatre ticketing website. \nWalk-up tickets will be available to purchase at the Modern Theatre box office on the day of each performance\, one hour before each performance’s scheduled start time\, subject to availability. \nIf you have any questions or if you need assistance purchasing tickets\, please email boxoffice@suffolk.edu .
