DESCRIPTION:Join the Museum of African American History for an evening with January Gill O’Neil\, author of Glitter Road\, a Massachusetts Book Awards Honors title in poetry. O’Neil will read from her celebrated collection and speak about the legacy of Phillis Wheatley alongside the landscape of contemporary Black women’s poetry in Boston and across Massachusetts before opening the floor for an audience Q&A and book signing. \nGlitter Road opens in the wake of loss\, deep pain\, and anger\, yet the poems insist on finding flashes of celebration and joy—even if that joy is simply\, in the spirit of Lucille Clifton\, “what i have shaped into / a kind of life\,” the triumph of survival and self-recognition. With formal dexterity and richly charged syntax\, O’Neil’s poems resist the silences of fear\, grief\, desire\, and anxiety\, speaking aloud what is so often left unspoken in both private and public life. Her interrogations of race thread through the collection\, shaping a speaker whose history—personal and collective—unfolds with carefully rendered detail. \nThis program is sponsored by the Mass Book Awards Speakers Bureau and is presented in collaboration with the Massachusetts Center for the Book. \nJANUARY GILL O’NEIL is a poet and author of Glitter Road\, Rewilding\, Misery Islands\, and Underlife. DESCRIPTION:This March\, the Freedom Trail® Foundation will honor Women’s History Month with the return of the Revolutionary Women Tours. The tours will help residents and visitors discover the indomitable women who took part in the American Revolution\, and the generations of women that followed\, inaugurating their own struggles for freedom and equality. \nThe Freedom Trail Revolutionary Women Tours invites people of all ages to walk the Freedom Trail and explore four centuries of revolutionary women who changed history. These 90-minute tours feature tales of the early religious rebellions of Anne Hutchinson and Mary Dyer\, abolitionist movements of Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman\, landmark achievements of Black pioneers Phillis Wheatley and Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler\, prolific writings of Abigail Adams and Louisa May Alcott\, dynamic speeches of Margaret Sanger and Susan B. Anthony\, and more. Walk the paths these influential women treaded\, while visiting the places where their voices were heard\, works published\, and were laid to rest. \nThe tours also feature official Freedom Trail historic sites from the site of the Great Elm on Boston Common\, where women paid the ultimate price for refusing to conform to puritanical values\, to the Granary Burying Ground\, where those who fought fiercely for independence are remembered alongside their revolutionary male counterparts\, the Old Corner Bookstore and Old South Meeting House\, where women made change through the power of literature and the spoken word. Revolutionary Women Tours culminate at Faneuil Hall\, the Cradle of Liberty\, which played a prominent role in both the abolitionist and women’s suffrage movements.

Presented by the Downtown Boston Alliance\, WINTERACTIVE is inspired by the winter festivals and art experiences of Canada and features elements that light up\, play music\, and give us all an excuse to head outside in the winter. A member of the Alliance’s staff will lead the tour and share information on each of the many engaging elements of WINTERACTIVE before dropping you off back at the Hyatt Regency. \nThe tour takes 60-90 minutes and will be at a slow walking pace on Downtown Boston’s flat\, inviting streets.
