SUMMARY:The 4th Witch
DESCRIPTION:The 4th Witch is a fantastic new tale\, inspired by elements of Shakespeare’s Macbeth\, in which a girl escapes war and seeks protection from three witches. They agree to take her on as an apprentice with only one condition: she must never use her powers for revenge. Consumed by grief and rage\, the girl comes to realize that it was Macbeth who killed her parents. Now she must choose between reconciliation or vengeance. \nTold through inventive practical effects executed in plain sight\, the troupe brilliantly employs shadow puppetry\, live music and actors in silhouette\, to create an entire new world in The 4th Witch. Manual Cinema has built a devoted fanbase in Boston over the course of their thrilling past productions at ArtsEmerson including Ada/Ava and Frankenstein. Do not miss their triumphant return this fall!

SUMMARY:Music America
DESCRIPTION:Music runs through the veins of America. Since the nation’s inception two and a half centuries ago\, music has informed our national identity\, interpreted it\, and inspired it. Whether sacred or secular\, urban or rural\, folk or pop\, classical or experimental\, it all adds up to the soundtrack of our American story. \nMUSIC AMERICA tells the complex story of American music through instruments\, hand-written lyrics\, books\, photographs\, costumes\, and other objects from major artists across genres and generations. Featuring more than 100 legendary artifacts from artists ranging from Public Enemy to Elvis Presley\, the exhibit showcases stage outfits worn by Aerosmith’s Joe Perry\, Boston’s Tom Scholz\, and Elvis\, Chuck D’s handwritten “Fight the Power” lyrics\, and items from Bo Diddley\, Ella Fitzgerald\, Kurt Cobain\, Michael Jackson\, Bruce Springsteen and more. \nThis exhibit is curated by and presented in partnership with the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music. \nThe Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music preserves the legacy of Bruce Springsteen and celebrates the history of American music and its diversity of artists and genres. Our mission is two-fold. The Springsteen Archives serves as the official repository for materials related to Springsteen and the E Street Band\, including photographs\, historic memorabilia\, oral histories\, and more. The Center for American Music explores American music more broadly. We accomplish this by producing exhibitions\, concerts\, and educational programming that explores and honors the cultural impact of American music past\, present\, and future. For further information\, please visit www.springsteenarchives.org.

SUMMARY:The Secret Sharer
DESCRIPTION:DNAWORKS’s bold\, world premiere adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s 1909 novella The Secret Sharer transforms the text into a powerful multimedia performance blending dance\, music\, sound\, text\, and art installation. Often considered an early Queer text\, The Secret Sharer tells the story of two men—a ship’s Captain and a stowaway accused of murder—and the bond the two develop as the stowaway is secretly sheltered in the Captain’s quarters. \nIn keeping with DNAWORKS’s signature storycircle practice\, audience members create the ship’s perimeter and are invited to share their own stories throughout the performance\, inviting a collaborative space where audiences co-create the environment. \nIn the face of violence and discrimination\, the characters at the center of this story reveal the healing which often arises in the presence of vulnerability\, intimacy\, and resilience.
