"Drinking Boston: A History Of The City & Its Spirits" (Old South Meeting House)

Old South Meeting House hosts author and journalist Stephanie Schorow for a Book Launch Celebration of her new title Drinking Boston: A History of the City and Its Spirits. Schorow will discuss the cast of characters who championed or vilified drinking and the places where they imbibed--whether legally and otherwise.

"I'm very excited that Old South Meeting House is helping to launch Drinking Boston," says the author, "Old South Meeting House is so close to many of the events and places featured in the book."

This lecture explores the fascinating role that alcohol has played throughout Boston's history, and through this lens examines the city's spirit of invention, its hardscrabble politics, its mythology, and its never-ending battle between personal freedom and civic reform.

This event is made possible by funding from the Lowell Institute and is presented free and open to the public. Book sales and a book signing will follow the lecture.
