Interested in digital fabrication, but fancy yourself more of an artist? Join [email protected] and esteemed local muralist, Felipe Ortiz, to laser-etch your own woodblock prints. During this hands-on workshop, you’ll blend traditional artistic methods with modern makerspace technology, and will walk alway with your own original “fabbed” art! RSVP at laserprints.eventbrite.com WHAT TO EXPECT: Bring your own simple drawings, or learn how to customize Felipe’s fine-art drawings to make them your own! We’ll take your designs and make them compatible with our 75-watt Epilog Fusion M2 laser cutter, and then etch your images into 6mm wooden sheets. While the blocks are being cut, the lead artist will guide you through hand-pressing the woodblocks with archival ink to make your own artistic prints, which you can further customize through illustration and watercolor techniques. We’ll offer delicious tea, coffee and pastries from our own Render Coffee. Come meet other creatives from Boston during this fun, productive workshop! WHAT TO BRING: Your laptop with a design software installed (Freeware recommendation: Inkscape) Optional: Black and white high-contrast photos of your drawings (if you want!) WHAT WE’LL PROVIDE: Fine-art that you can customize for your prints Wood for your blocks Archival ink Rollers Printing paper Coffee, tea and pastries Fun times! ABOUT THE ARTIST: When Felipe Ortiz isn’t busy in [email protected], he’s painting street art and large-scale work all over the world - including many pieces in CIC! He founded the Fresco Exchange, an international art collective, and his laser-etched prints were recently part of the SCAN and MAKE show in San Francisco. “Through this process, I am able to not only fuse laser technology into my art, I am also able to produce even more one-of-a-kind pieces from each of my drawings, and this practice has made my art more accessible to the public.”
