Japan Culture Series: Karuta
Come learn about and experience karuta with the Japan Society of Boston and instructor Kyoko Hiromoto, organizer of the Boston Nakamaro Karuta club, and a 1st-Dan (1段), rank C player. Karuta is the Japanese card matching game in which the beginning of a poem is read, and players need to be the first to grab the card with the rest of the poem written on it. Come for an intro to this classic game, still popular today, and try your hand! Whoever grabs the most correct cards wins. Karuta is played while kneeling on tatami mats, so please dress accordingly if you plan to play! Space is limited, so register in advance: $5 for Japan Society of Boston members $10 for non members.
