LANGSTON HUGHES' BLACK NATIVITY

LANGSTON HUGHES' BLACK NATIVITY

Black Nativity presents the traditional Christmas story as found in the New Testament gospels as a narrative of common people receiving the divine gifts of joy and hope. Within a swell of energetic, gospel music performed by children and adults, the Christ Child arrives amid dramatic dance propelled by African drums. His arrival portents a new era for all people of good will, an era heralded by the uplifting music that swells throughout the theater.

The National Center of Afro-American Artists offers Black Nativity as a gift from Boston’s black community to people of good will from all cultures and spiritual traditions. It seeks thereby to bring the city together and heals its fractures through communal love and caring.
